First Impressions: Super Mario Galaxy

November 11, 2007

Well today I finally got some hands on time with Super Mario Galaxy, thanks to a demo station at on of the local Gamestops.  First of all, I want to point out that for the maybe 10-15 minutes I was playing the game seemed to be moving at a pretty slow pace, but I think I can attribute this to the fact that I was in a game store and running on a tight schedule, that and I started from the very beginning of the game.  That aspect aside, the game looked fantastic which of course has been stated before in numerous reviews but it’s absolutely true.

Okay, so graphics aside lets talk gameplay, it starts out as your basic Mario platformer where you get a note to visit peach, but as soon as you get to the castle Bowser shows up and kidnaps the Princess.  The biggest change is that in stead of chasing him through paintings (super Mario 64) or across a tropical island (super Mario sunshine) this time your chasing him through space.  This has you running across smaller spherical worlds (although you get to some bigger ones later in the game) which can cause some confusion when it comes to controls but overall it doesn’t take very long to get used to the controls.  And from what I’ve played it was a lot of fun, and not to challenging (although I’ve heard that some of the other galaxies in the game are just brutal).  Well given my play time I think that’s about all I have to say, I know the soundtracks supposed to be good, but since I was in a store the volume was pretty low on the TV.  I’m definitely planning to pick this up tomorrow.

First Impressions of Pokemon Battle Revolution

June 26, 2007

Well I got Pokemon Battle Revolution today and so far I’ve played it for about an hour and here is what I think so far

Wifi: Haven’t done that yet, but if I do I’ll update this part.

The game overall:  Pokemon Battle Revolution seems to want me to buy Diamond or Pearl for the DS seeing as if I just use the rental pass supplied by the game, my options are very limited.  You can’t customize your Pokemon line up, which is extremely disappointing, but overall it’s a pretty fun game, and I haven’t played a Pokemon game sense Silver on the Game Boy Color.  So because you can’t play the game to it’s full potential, chances are I’m going to pick up Diamond for the DS some time this summer, just so I can broaden my options.  Man cannot live on pre-set pokemon alone.

Well there you have it my first opinions on this game based on my first hour of play time.
